Siena Soccer Programs Honored by United Soccer Coaches for Academic Excellence

Teams Once Again Earned Team Academic Awards

KANSAS CITY, MO – Both Siena Men's and Women's Soccer continue to demonstrate success in the classroom as the 2023 season comes into view. The squads were once again given Team Academic Awards by the United soccer Coaches (USC), the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.

Siena was one of 179 schools across all collegiate levels to have both of its soccer programs recognized for maintaining cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or better during the 2022-23 academic year. In total, 801 college teams (307 men, 494 women) earned the Team Academic Award for the past year.

The Siena women's soccer program collected the award for the 21st consecutive year, while the men were honored for the seventh straight year and 11th time in the last 13 seasons.

The women remained near the top of the athletic department with a 3.64 cumulative GPA following the conclusion of the 2022-23 year, ranking third among Siena teams and carrying a 3.58 team mark during the Spring 2023 semester. With a cumulative mark of 3.57 during the 2022-23 year, 12 women's soccer student athletes were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, while 19 were selected to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll.

The men held a 3.36 cumulative GPA following the 2022-23 academic year, and turned in an impressive 3.48 mark during the 2022-23 year. The squad featured a record 15 Saints on the MAAC All-Academic team and placed 19 athletes on the MAAC Academic Honor Roll.

United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full school year. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Service Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.
