POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Siena Men's and Women's Cross Country was officially back in action Saturday morning at the Marist Season Opener at Vassar Farm in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Taking part in the first of seven scheduled regular season events this fall, the women took second behind host Marist, while the men finished third. Siena competed against squads from MAAC foes Marist, Manhattan, Iona, and Fairfield, as well as UAlbany, Delaware Valley, and Sacred Heart.
Freshman
Kyra Pellegrino's collegiate running debut saw her place third in the women's 5k with a time of 18:46.6, while graduate transfer
Madeline Hesler took 11
th at 19:30.3. Sister
Katharine Hesler (19:39.5), sophomore
Mattingly O'Rourke (20:00.5), and junior
Claire Gardner (20:02.2) rounded out the team's top-five finishers by placing 13
th, 17
th, and 18
th, respectively.
On the men's side, fifth year
Matthew Laframboise led the Saints with a 16
th place finish (19:41.4) in the men's 6k, while senior
Ben Guerin (19:44.9) came in just after him. Junior
Noah Greski (20:02.6), sophomore
Brody Santagata (20:05.5), and senior
Patrick Fiorillo (20:11.6) closed out the team's top-five finishers in 29
th, 32
nd, and 36
th, respectively.
Siena's next cross country action will come on Saturday, September 16 at the Jasper Fall XC Invite hosted by Manhattan College in Montgomery, New York – also the site of the 2023 MAAC Cross Country Championships.
