Maxwell Acri was the lone Saint to advance on Day 1 of the ITA Regionals in the singles qualifying round of 64 on site of Harvard's outdoor courts played in Cambridge, MA on Thursday.

The Fort Myers, FL native defeated a familiar opponent in Niagara's Rohan Srivastava in straight sets by the scores of 6-2, 6-1.Â

Acri turned right around and played another match directly afterwards, facing Dartmouth's Waleed Qadir and fell 7-5, 6-0 in the round of 32.Â

Other Saints who were in action were sophomore
Dylan Breen and junior
Zino Varouhas-Poole.

Breen, the Waterford, Ireland native lost in consecutive sets to Aidan Lee of Colgate.

Varouhas-Poole, a native of Wellington, New Zealand, dropped his match to Kostas Kollias of Fairfield 6-2, 7-5.Â

The tournament features the top men's tennis players from across the country. Two singles finalists from each of the 26 regions around the U.S. will have the opportunity to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship. The doubles champion from each of 13 regions will play for the doubles title.Â

Friday's Day two action will feature Saints sophomore
Oscar Martinez competing in the singles main draw bracket against Cornell's Eric Verdes at 12:30 p.m. in the round of 64.Â

In the men's doubles bracket, Martinez will team with Breen to take on Edward Liao and Zhengqing Ji at 10:30 a.m.
