Volleyball hosts Merrimack, Quinnipiac on ESPN+

Saints to jockey in MAAC standings with Warriors, Bobcats

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Volleyball will host an important weekend of conference matches starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the UHY Center when it entertains new MAAC member Merrimack and will follow that up with a bout against Quinnipiac on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The two matches will be important in the jockeying for position in the MAAC standings for each team's playoff push as the final month of the regular season gets set into motion.
    
Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ with Tim Drawbridge and James Hosley on the call of Saturday's match and Joe Lemery and Hosley calling Sunday's action. 

Fans can participate in "Siena Volleyball Bingo Saturday" with an opportunity to win Saints gear through a volleyball themed game of bingo and then can stop by for "Sunglass Sunday" with the first 50 fans receiving free Siena sunglasses that walk through the door to watch the match.

The Saints (4-15, 3-4 MAAC) are coming off a four-set defeat to crosstown rival UAlbany this past Wednesday. 

Siena dropped back down in hitting percentage to .137 as hitting a season-high .309 at Rider last Sunday and .281 in a win at Saint Peter's last Saturday. 

Senior Olga Sawinska led the Saints with nine kills on a .240 hitting percentage last time out while redshirt freshman Salme Adeele Hollas contributed with six kills, nine digs and four total blocks.

Hollas ranked eighth in the MAAC in hitting percentage (.245) while Doga Diraz ranks 10th in the category (.241) while Sara Wagner is seventh in kills per set (3.13).

The Warriors (4-14, 3-4 MAAC) are led by first-year coach Ken Nichols and have won each of the past two matches, sweeping both Iona and Manhattan in North Andover, Ma. 

Senior Julz Carlat has a team-high 145 kills while freshman Mckenna Shotwell has totaled 135 kills on a .171 hitting percentage.

Marissa Kobelski ranks ninth in the MAAC in hitting percentage at .243.

Siena leads the all-time series against the Warriors 2-0 including a five-setter winner back in 2022.

Sunday's match features a meeting against Quinnipiac (8-11, 5-2 MAAC). 

The Bobcats have remained one of the stingiest teams in the MAAC to score against as it ranks second in opponent hitting percentage (.193), first in opponent assists (9.76/set), first in opponent kills (10.59/set) and second in opponent's aces (1.48 a/set). 

Damla Gunes ranks tops in the conference in assists with 8.88 assists per set (515 assists in 58 sets) and is ranked sixth in the MAAC in aces (26). 

The Saints lead the all-time series against Quinnipiac 18-11, however the Bobcats topped the Saints in three sets in their last meeting (20-25, 19-25), 23-25).
