In the inaugural MAAC Masters Tournament, Siena Tennis had one representative from both the men's and women's teams advance to the quarterfinals of the singles draw as
Oscar Martinez and
Laia Giralt will play on for an opportunity to advance after winning on Friday at the Quinnipiac Athletic & Recreation Center.
The winning individuals and pairs will earn an automatic bid to the ITA Conference Masters Championship, which will take place at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, California, from November 7-10.
Martinez, the sophomore who is a native of La Guaira, Venezuela, earned a first-round bye and then topped Enrique Laennec of Sacred Heart in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Martinez will face Kacper Krolikowski from Fairfield on Saturday at 9 a.m.
On the women's side, Giralt, a senior, also earned a bye based upon her ranking and then defeated Laila Fishman of Merrimack 6-1, 2-6, 10-3. The Barcelona, Spain native will take on Nicolette Loeffler of Fairfield on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Senior
Maxwell Acri split his singles match ups, winning in his round of 32 in straight sets before falling in a third-set tiebreaker in the round of 16.
The Saints return to the courts on Saturday at the MAAC Masters Tournament played in Hamden, CT beginning at 9 a.m.
