Sophomore Oscar Martinez kept the good times rolling along as last season's MAAC Rookie of the Year won each of his singles matchups in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to advance to the final of the inaugural MAAC Masters Tournament on Saturday at the Quinnipiac Athletic & Recreation Center.
 
Martinez topped Fairfield's Kacper Krolikowski in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the quarters and then bested Rider's Dhruv Tangri, also in straights, 6-3, 6-2. 
 
The La Guaira, Venezeula native will take on Tanner Bedard of Niagara at 9 a.m.
 
Martinez had a busy day, also competing in a pair of doubles matches with partner Dylan Breen and pulled two more victories to his ledger by advancing to Sunday's semifinal round.  The Saints duo defeated Jose Catala and Nicholas Suhanitski of Marist 7-5 and then topped Nathan Slattery and Dhruv Tangri of Rider 6-2.  Martinez/Breen will face off against Finn Burridge and Carlos Braun Simo, who will represent Quinnipiac at 9 a.m. in a semifinal. 
 
Laia Giralt's bid to become the singles champion ended when she split her matches on Saturday.  The Barcelona, Spain native took care of business early, beating Nicolette Loeffler of Fairfield 6-1, 6-0. Then, Giralt fell in her later match to Loeffler's teammate Anna Neyestani 6-3, 6-1.
 
Giralt will continue into Sunday's play, however, as her doubles hopes are still alive with teammate Manuela Gomez.  The pair will take on Caitlin Flower and Willow Renton of Quinnipiac at 9 a.m. 
 
On Saturday, Giralt and Gomez Olivia Kharkover/Malena del Olmo (Sacred Heart) 6-1 and then got past Caterina Assi and Cloe Clements of Marist 6-3.
 
The winning individuals and pairs will earn an automatic bid to the ITA Conference Masters Championship, which will take place at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, California, from November 7-10.
