Junior
Maxwell Acri is one of only two returners from the defending MAAC Champions on the Siena Men's Tennis team.
His experience showed out in Saturday's play at Temple.
Despite the Saints' 6-1 defeat to the Owls at the Hecht Tennis Center, Acri pulled out his sixth win of the season by topping sophomore Erden Er at the singles No. 3 position in straight sets 6-1, 7-5.
The match also featured a reunion with Temple senior
Dante Russo, who transferred from Siena after serving as the No. 1 singles player, winning the MAAC Player of the Year honors and helping the Saints claim the MAAC Men's Tennis Championship last May.
Russo competed at both the singles No. 1 position and doubles No. 2 spots, and won both matches.
Russo topped
Zino Varouhas-Poole 6-0, 6-3 in singles play and teamed with Martim Marujo to beat Varouhas-Poole and
Dylan Breen 6-1.
Next up, the Saints (1-6) will host Holy Cross (1-0) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. from the Tri-City Fitness Center in Latham.
The Crusaders return to their second half action this Tuesday at #22 Florida State. They have not played a match since Oct. 28 when they competed in the Holy Cross Invitational.
