Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Saints’ Comeback Attempt Falls Short at Hofstra

Reynolds nets four; Olmstead secures hat trick in defeat

Despite a four-goal performance from Pratt Reynolds and a hat trick inside the third quarter alone from Caden Olmstead, Siena men's lacrosse comeback attempt came up just short in a 14-12 setback at Hofstra on Saturday afternoon in the confines of James M. Shuart Stadium.

In a game littered with seven ties throughout the majority of the first half, the Saints (0-2) allowed four unanswered goals during a roughly a five-minute stretch from 3:02 left in the second quarter until the opening moments of the third quarter.

Four different members of the Pride (3-1) scored in that span with goals from Rory Jones, Ryan Woodland, Justin Sykes and John Madsen.

While the Saints' defense tightened up significantly in the second half (allowing just four goals), Siena was unable to find the back of the net in the last quarter.

Siena's third quarter performance put them in position, however as goals by Liam Hassett, Carter Fort and three from Olmstead was able to get it within 13-12 heading into the final frame.

The Saints were short handed, missing several key players from its roster due to sickness and injuries.

Among them included All-MAAC Preseason Team member Jack Erb, lead faceoff specialist Dylan Pape and Colby LeBlanc, who tallied a goal and an assist in the opener against NJIT.

It was a reunion of sorts for Conor Hufnagle, who was facing his former team after transferring from Hofstra to Siena.

The junior from Yorktown, NY tallied two assists in his first match up against his former squad.

Freshman and local high school graduate from Shaker Carter Fort scored his first career in a Saints' uniform.

Saints senior goalkeeper Andrew Arcuri made 12 saves in the cage.

Next up, Siena completes its three-game road stand to begin the season with a visit to UMass-Lowell (0-2) on Friday at 3 p.m.

The River Hawks dropped a 10-7 decision to UMass, who was receiving votes in the latest Division I Top 25 poll by Inside Lacrosse.
