The Siena Women's Tennis team wasn't going to quit when it got difficult.
Instead, the Saints pushed forward to gut out three long tie-breakers in singles competition and picked up a straight-sets win from
Manuela Gomez on their way to a 4-3 triumph over Bryant on Saturday at Tri-City Fitness in Latham.
Gomez, the Colombian freshman, picked up her sixth victory of the season by defeating Caitlyn Munson, a junior, by the scores of 7-5, 6-2 at the singles #4 position.
Munson was an 11-game winner a season ago.
Siena (1-4) welcomed the return of senior
Alexa Wilson, who fought hard to pull out one of the longer breakers—outlasting #1 player Natalia Vela 7-6 (2), 4-6, 15-13.
Singles No. 2 player
Laia Giralt was also in a tough battle with the Bulldogs' Yahli Noy, winning 6-3, 3-6, 12-10.
Giralt evened her singles record to 6-6 on the season while Noy dropped to 5-4.
Meanwhile, the Saints also received a big boost toward the bottom of their lineup from
Reegan Mullaney, who delivered a 6-4, 2-6, 11-9 victory at the singles #6 spot against Olivia Rondini, dropping her record to 5-6.
"Amazing match today," said Siena women's tennis head coach
John Chiaramonte.
"It was a great fight from the women today. Bryant came out strong—winning a tough doubles' point. We fought on every court in singles. I couldn't be prouder of this team's progress. My hat is off to Alexa [Wilson] for getting the clinch 15-13"
Next up, the Saints (1-4) will travel to Fairfield, CT, to take on Sacred Heart (5-1) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
