LOUDONVILLE, NY – Winning the draw on a consistent basis became a troublesome task for the Siena Women's Lacrosse team on Wednesday.
It largely amounted to a big advantage for Dartmouth as the Big Green defeated the Saints 15-8 in a non-conference tilt at Hickey Field.
Dartmouth (1-1) held a 16-8 edge in draw controls and had won seven of the first eight to start the game.
Time of possession swung heavily their way as it reeled off six unanswered goals to begin the fourth quarter after Siena had closed the deficit to 9-6 with 1:18 remaining in the third on a
Rebecca Gilhooley goal.
All-Ivy League Second Team selections Katie Elders had a game-high five goals with three coming in the fourth quarter while Katina Christensen secured the hat trick with 3:45 left to lead the Big Green.
One game removed from setting the program's all-time assist record, junior attack
Grace Dobrzynski produced another big game by leading the Saints with three goals and three assists.
Gilhooley had one of her most memorable collegiate games in last year's meeting at Dartmouth when the attack notched four goals including the winning goal in overtime to help give the Saints a 14-13 victory.
While the Syracuse, NY native scored twice on Wednesday, the collective team's offense was unable to build much momentum.
Senior
Taryn Asselin added a goal and an assist.
Siena (1-2) took an early lead at 3-2 on an unassisted Dobrzynski goal, but found themselves trailing 7-4 at halftime after Dartmouth scored twice in the closing 1:43 on a goal by Mia Puccio and a man-down goal by Fiona O'Keeffe with eight seconds left.
Sabrina Krasner made a couple of impressive saves with some quick stick work on low-angled shots. Though Krasner made eight saves, she was under pressure for much of the afternoon as the Big Green scored on 15 of their 23 shots on goal.
Shaker High graduate and Watervliet, NY native
Lauren O'Hagan scored her first collegiate goal with 57 seconds remaining in the game.
Siena will be back on Hickey Field this Saturday for a noon time opening draw against St. Bonaventure (1-1).
The Bonnies are coming off a 15-13 home win over Bucknell on Wednesday.
