The Siena Women's Tennis team ran into a hot Sacred Heart team on Saturday night, dropping its match 5-2 at the Tennis Club of Trumbull in Fairfield, CT.
Saints No. 2 singles player
Laia Giralt did go over the .500 mark for the season in singles play, however, as the junior Spaniard improved to 7-6 on the season by defeating Ukrainian graduate student Vitalina Golod 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
The other win for Siena came from the singles No. 6 position as last year's All-MAAC First Team selection
Madeline De Faber-Schumacher earned her first singles win of the season by outlasting junior Indian Renee Sharma 7-6 (5), 6-3.
"It was a tough match against a very experienced team," said Siena women's tennis head coach
John Chiaramonte.
"It was great match for Laia [Giralt] coming back from a break down in the third set to win her match."
The Pioneers improved to 8-1.
Next up, the Saints (1-5) will host Bucknell (4-6) next Sunday, March 3 at Tri-City Fitness at 2 p.m.
