LOUDONVILLE, NY – After Monday's practice, sophomore
Caden Olmstead made mention of how the Siena Men's Lacrosse team can come at their opponent in a myriad of ways as offensive scoring threats.
On Wednesday, the Saints showed a good example of how that could come to fruition as Siena was bolstered by a pair of hat tricks from
Travis Fry and
Pratt Reynolds in defeating a feisty Le Moyne squad 11-9 on a windy afternoon at Hickey Field.
For Fry, it was his first career collegiate hat trick for the sophomore from Akron, NY.
He added an assist on a feed to Reynolds, who rifled it in, with 13:43 remaining in the fourth quarter for the winning goal to give Siena the lead for good at 9-8.
Reynolds, a junior, came right back just three minutes and 21 seconds later to make it 10-8 to complete his 16
th career hat trick and third hat trick this season.
The Manlius, NY native netted his fourth career winning goal against a school that was within a 15-minute drive of his hometown.
"I'm from [the] Syracuse-Le Moyne [area], Reynolds said.
"I have a lot of friends on their team. I know a lot of people there. It's very close to home so it was great to be able to win at the end of the day."
Fry completed his hat trick with 9:12 left on an unassisted goal to push the lead to three.
The Saints (2-2) received a stout performance from its defense, which was able to limit Le Moyne to just 3-of-7 on extra man opportunities.
Brian Mack (six ground balls, three caused turnovers) and
Trevor Marsala (four ground balls, four caused turnovers) put pressure on the Dolphins' offense throughout the game.
And, in the cage,
Andrew Arcuri put together another solid game with 10 saves to earn his second victory, lowering his goals-against average to 11.68.
Dolphins (1-2) were able to keep it close with a dynamic performance from face off specialist Sam Getty, who won 16 of 24 face offs and had a game-high 15 ground balls.
But the Saints buckled down on defense and were able to outscore the Dolphins 3-1 in the decisive fourth.
The Saints now lead the all-time series 2-1.
Junior defense
Mark Cummins scored his first career goal on an assist from
Will Edell to give Siena an 8-6 lead.
Rocco Barbero,
Patrick Radomski,
Colby LeBlanc and
Jack Cavaioli also scored for the Saints.
Siena will be back home to host Dartmouth (1-2) this Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Big Green is coming off an 11-6 defeat to Lehigh this past Monday.
