Freshman
Oscar Martinez continued his strong rookie campaign by cruising to another victory on Sunday morning against Bucknell's Adam Stavrakas played on site of Binghamton's Lane-Starke Tennis Center in Vestal, NY.
While the Saints fell 6-1 to the Bison, it rounded out an impressive weekend for Martinez.
The Venezuelan native completed the clean sweep of sets over weekend play by topping Stavrakas, a sophomore, from the singles No. 2 position to move to 8-4 overall and 2-1 at the No. 2 singles spot.
Stavrakas entered the match with an 8-3 record and was coming off wins against competition from Virginia Tech and St. Francis (Pa.).
At the singles No. 4 position, Siena junior
Duarte Melo took the opening set 7-5 before succumbing to a three-set defeat against Liam Kilmer. Kilmer improved to 10-1 and has lost just three total sets all season.
Bucknell (2-1) picked up straight set wins in the other matches.
"Every weekend this team shows improvement as we build toward MAAC play," said Siena men's tennis head coach
John Chiaramonte. "Hats off to Oscar who did not drop a set in singles this weekend."
Next up, the Saints (1-4) travel to Philadelphia to take on Drexel (3-0) on Friday at 11 a.m. The Dragons have won this season against Villanova, Mount St. Mary's and Hofstra.
