Men’s Lacrosse looks to regroup; hosts VMI in MAAC play

Saints and Keydets to faceoff on Saturday at 1 p.m.

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Men's Lacrosse will look to shake off a sluggish outing last time out as it hosts high-scoring VMI in a conference game on Saturday in their home return to Hickey Field.

The Saints (2-4 overall, 0-1 MAAC) and Keydets (4-3, 0-1 MAAC) are set for a 1 p.m. faceoff on Saturday.

Siena leads the all-time series 8-6, however it was the Keydets who pulled out a 14-10 win against the Saints last season in Lexington, Va. 

The stakes have been raised in that both teams are looking for its first conference win after coming off disappointing defeats in their conference openers.

Siena was defeated at Sacred Heart 18-8 last Saturday while VMI lost 17-8 to LIU last Saturday.

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ with Chris Watson and Tom Schwan on the call.

Siena's offense has settled into the middle of the pack thus far among its conference peers, ranking fifth in goals per game at 11.67 per game and fifth in assists per game at 6.83. 

Sophomore Caden Olmstead has continued to lead the Saints' offense by averaging 2.83 goals per game, good for third among MAAC players, and is also seventh in the conference in points per game with 3.67. 

The Binghamton, NY native has already secured a MAAC Player of the Week honor this season and is seeing his first action on the field after missing the entirety of last season due to injury. 

Junior Pratt Reynolds has the eighth most goals scored in the conference with 14. 

The Manlius, NY native is eight points away from becoming the 31st player in Siena Men's Lacrosse program history to reach the 100-point club. 

Junior Ryan McCarthy has thrived as one of the conference's top facilitators with 14 assists to rank only behind VMI's Luke Rusterucci, who leads the league with 19. 

VMI's high scoring offense leads the MAAC in scoring with 99 goals scored in seven games (14.14 per game).  Rusterucci and teammate Charles Hunt each have totaled 18 goals for the conference lead while AJ Stamos ranks fourth in assists with 12. 

The Keydets also feature the MAAC's top faceoff specialist thus far in sophomore Jack Rogers, who has won 104 of 173 faceoffs for a league-best winning percentage of .601 and also leads the MAAC in ground balls with 47. 

The teams have similar ratings on the defensive side of the ball with VMI allowing 11.77 goals per contest while the Saints have allowed 12.78 goals per game.

Saints' goalkeeper Andrew Arcuri is averaging 12.00 saves per game on a .483 save percentage while VMI sophomore goalkeeper Adam Norris is averaging 10.57 saves per game on a .503 save percentage. 

The game features some of the MAAC's top defensive players as well with VMI's James Boynewicz (17 caused turnovers) and Siena's Trevor Marsala (12 caused turnovers) and Brian Mack (10 caused turnovers) all ranking in the top eight in the category.
