Siena Men's Tennis team put forth a competitive effort on Saturday at home against Buffalo, but ultimately fell 5-2 at Tri-City Fitness in Latham.
However, the Saints (2-8) were picked up a pair of promising freshmen.
Saints' freshman
Oscar Martinez upped his overall individual singles record to 11-6 after besting junior Cheng Tang of Chaozhou Township, Taiwan, in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 from the singles No. 3 position.
Tang, a prior First-Team All-MAC selection, fell to 10-10 on the season.
And, for a second consecutive match, fellow freshman
Dylan Breen rallied for a victory after losing the opening set.
Playing from the singles No. 6 singles position, the Waterford, Ireland native stormed back to defeat Australian senior Finn Macnamara 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Breen improved to 7-3 in singles individual play this season.
"We are improving every match," said Siena men's tennis coach
John Chiaramonte.
"It was a very hard match today from our guys. Good wins for Oscar [Martinez] and Dylan [Breen]. We have some things to work on next two weeks and look forward to facing Le Moyne on Senior Night."
In other action, Saints' No. 1 singles player returned to the lineup and lost a tight one after winning the opening set against Daniils Snaiders.
Zino Varouhas-Poole,
Maxwell Acri and
Duarte Melo all lost in straight sets in singles play.
