Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Dominant Defense, Draw Controls Power Saints Past Le Moyne

Saints allow fewest goals in a game in nearly nine years

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Lacrosse scored the first seven goals of the game within about a nine-and-a half minute stretch between the first and second quarters and never looked back on route to a dominant 15-4 victory against Le Moyne on a wet Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field.

And, on defense, Siena allowed its fewest goals in a game in nearly nine years when it allowed just one goal in an 18-1 win against UMass Lowell on March 11, 2015.

Sabrina Krasner made eight saves and allowed just three goals in over 53 minutes in net while the starting defensive unit of Jenna Colabufo, Grace Nothnagle, Laura Bonomo, Mikayla Cooke and Madyson Kolligian caused havoc for the Le Moyne offense throughout the game.

Junior attack Grace Dobrzynski ignited much of the scoring early with a pair of assists and a pair of goals during the decisive run.

The West Greenwich, RI native would finish with five points on the day.

Siena (3-3) was able to maintain a vice grip of control with a dominant 19-3 advantage in winning draw controls.

Taryn Asselin had the majority of activity, gaining 13 draw controls to tie the all-time program record for most draw controls in a single game by a Saint.

It matched the amount that Allie Kain had in a game against Central Connecticut in March of 2008.

Asselin also netted her second hat trick of the season, connecting with the back of the goal on all three shots attempts that she took.

 Rebecca Gilhooley scored twice.

After the Dolphins (1-3) cut the lead to 7-2 with 4:31 remaining in the second quarter, the Saints scored eight of the next 10 goals including one each by Lauren O'Hagan, Meghan Decker, and Sarah Irish

Freshman Cassidy Bonura scored her first two career collegiate goals back-to-back free position shots within under a two-minute span late in the fourth quarter as Irish scored her first career goal with 12 seconds remaining to cap it.

Siena will have a nine-day break before returning to game action on Tuesday, March 12 at 3 p.m. when it hosts Colgate (0-5).
