Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Five and Alive in Buffalo as Women’s Lax Runs Down Canisius in OT

Asselin nets winning goal from Dobrzynski with 1:43 left in OT

Taryn Asselin netted the winning goal with 1:43 remaining in overtime on a cut in front of the cage as Grace Dobrzynski connected with the senior as the Siena Women's Lacrosse team rallied past host Canisius 12-11 at Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo to keep its' winning streak intact for a fifth consecutive victory.

Siena (7-3, 2-0 MAAC) battled back after falling behind 10-7 early into the fourth quarter, but were able to outscore the Golden Griffins 4-1 in the fourth quarter to force the extra period.

Asselin, redshirt junior Jordan Bentley and junior Kelly Logue all struck back to square the score at 10-10 with 7:38 remaining in regulation.

Canisius' Maddie Mazur connected on a free position shot to help the Golden Griffins (8-2, 1-1 MAAC) recapture the lead with 5:28 left, but Saints' freshman Olivia Nicholson tied it at 11-all on a feed from Dobrzynski with 3:04 on the clock.

To begin the overtime period, Saints' senior Laura Bonomo won a critical draw control, one of her six on the day, to give Siena possession and reset with a called time out.

Siena held a heavy advantage in draw controls once again, winning that battle 20-7 including 6-1 in the fourth quarter and overtime.

The Saints, working its' patient offense, waited for the right time to strike on stingy Golden Griffins' goalkeeper Jody Chu, who made several dazzling saves earlier in the game and finished with 16 on the day.

But, she couldn't stop the last shot as Asselin was mobbed by teammates with her winning shot.

Asselin had yet another busy day working in the middle of the field with a team-high 11 draw controls, the fourth time this season the Ashford, CT native has nabbed double digit draw controls in a single game.

Asselin also netted her third hat trick season and extended her streak to multiple goals scored in a game to five straight.

The game had many ebbs and flows with Canisius opening with a 2-0 lead before Siena scored four consecutive goals.

The Saints led 6-5 at halftime, but found themselves down when the Golden Griffins' Paige Stachura struck with three goals and one assist in the third quarter alone.

Junior Grace Dobrzynski led the Saints with one goal and six assists, while Logue finished with four goals and Nicholson had three goals.

The Saints' win snapped the Golden Griffins' seven-game winning streak.

Siena will return to game action on Saturday, March 30 when it travels to New Rochelle, NY to play at Iona (6-3, 1-1 MAAC) for a 12 p.m. start.

The Gaels dropped its' first conference game of the season at #25 Fairfield 16-6 on Wednesday.
