Siena Baseball rallied back from two deficits in game one for a dramatic 7-6 victory and then poured it on in game two for a much more comfortable 10-6 win to complete a three-game sweep over MAAC foe Quinnipiac on Friday afternoon at Bard College's Honey Field.
The Saints (5-19, 3-0 MAAC) reeled off its fourth consecutive victory with timely hitting, alert and aggressive base running and some strong pitching out of the bullpen in late game situations.
After trailing 2-0 in game one, Siena tied it back up at 2-2 on a RBI single by Figueroa and by reaching base on an throwing error to plate another runner.
When Quinnipiac went ahead 4-2, Siena rallied back with one run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by
Louis Percival and picked up four more runs in the fifth inning on back-to-back hits by
Nick Bergamotto and Thorburn.
When Thorburn was caught stealing second base,
Nick Bergamotto scored what proved to be the deciding run.
Randall Hien went 2 for 3 with a pair of walks drawn and a couple of runs scored.
Billy Rozakis earned the win after pitching seven innings and striking out five.
Ryan Taffe and
Noah Rodriguez came out of the bullpen and did not allow a run. Rodriguez walked two in the ninth to make it interesting, but sealed it on a fly ball out to center to pick up his second save.
In game two, Siena came out strong out of the box with a four-run first inning and followed it up with a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings before bringing home three more in the sixth.
Noah Brooks went 3 for 5 with a bases-clearing double that plated three runners and had four RBI and a run scored in the game. Bergamotto batted 2 for 3 with two runs scored while Percival went 2 for 5.
Arnad Mulamekic pitched six and a third innings and allowed just two runs on five hits and struck out eight to earn the victory.
Quinnipiac fell to 6-18 overall and 0-6 in the MAAC.
