LOUDONVILLE, NY – UAlbany totaled 15 runs over the final five innings to slug past Siena Baseball 17-12 in the Saints 2024 Connors Park debut Tuesday afternoon. The Great Danes capitalized on seven Siena errors leading to eight of their 17 total runs being unearned.
Michael Prisco broke the game open with a sixth inning grand slam for UAlbany (4-16), which led by as many as 10 runs at 11-1 later in that frame. Prisco drove in five runs total while also scoring four times.
Siena (5-20) attempted to rally late, scoring 11 of their 12 runs over the final four innings in what prolonged to a marathon three-hour, 57-minute affair. The Saints scored six times in the final frame, but couldn't completely make up the deficit before the 27
th out.
Five different Siena players registered multi-hit affairs as part of a 13-hit attack, highlighted by home runs from
Austin Rachiele,
Willie Schwarick, and
Kobe Stenson, the latter of whom led the way with four RBI. Schwarick was on base four times, and scored three runs.
Luke Filippi scored three times and knocked in three runs for the Great Danes which also made the most of 12 total walks and four hit batsmen.
Due to the inclement weather forecast, the Saints midweek matchup Wednesday at Connors Park vs. Army West Point has been canceled. Siena is now set to return to action when they take on defending MAAC Tournament Champion Rider for a three-game series beginning Friday at 3 p.m. in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
