Siena Women's Tennis played yet another super tight match against a conference opponent, but came up just short 4-3 in a diligent effort from both teams on Friday at Tri-City Fitness in Latham.
The Saints (2-10, 0-2 MAAC) continued to struggle to find a way to win the doubles matches, dropping two of three for the point.
In singles play,
Alexa Wilson,
Laia Giralt and
Emma Boggiali all emerged victorious to put the Saints in position.
However, the back end of the Stags' singles' lineup came through with wins from the No. 3, 5, and 6 spots.
"It was a hard-fought match all the way through," said Siena women's tennis head coach
John Chiaramonte.
"It was an unbelievable fight from Laia to win in three sets and Alexa continues to look like one of the best players in the conference."
Wilson picked up victory number eight on the season by topping Sarah Liu 6-2, 6-1.
Giralt stayed hot at the No. 2 singles position, coming from behind to defeat Katarina Plumtree 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
The junior has now moved into fourth all-time in victories in program history from the No. 2 singles position.
Boggiali switched to the No. 4 singles spot and earned a 7-6, 6-1 win against Francesca Karman
Fairfield improved to 4-8 overall and 2-0 in MAAC play.
Next up, the Saints will travel to take on Quinnipiac on Saturday at 11 a.m.
