Men’s Tennis Splits Weekend Home Stand to Wrap ’23-24 Season

Saints top Mount St. Mary’s 6-1 on Sunday

Siena Men's Tennis finished the season on a high note by defeating Mount St. Mary's 6-1 on Sunday at Tri-City Fitness in Latham to earn a weekend split.

Siena finishes its 2023-2024 season with a 4-14 overall record and 1-5 record in the MAAC.

Sunday's finale will give something to build upon heading into next season for the Saints.

"Great win for the men," said coach John Chiaramonte.

"This has been a season with a lot of close matches. I've been so happy with how this team has come together with six new players and today was a harmonic performance from them. Awesome to see Dre and Duarte going out with wins in singles."

Freshman Oscar Martinez defeated fellow freshman Victor Mignot 6-3, 6-4 to conclude his rookie campaign with an 18-7 singles record to lead the team.

Martinez also closed out with a winning record in doubles by winning both on the weekend to move to 12-10 in doubles individual play.

The Saints also received straight set wins from Zino Varahous-Poole, Maxwell Acri, Andrea Moro and Duarte Melo in the No. 3 through No. 6 singles spots.

On Friday, the Saints took two of three doubles matches, getting a lift from the duos of Dylan Breen and and Oscar Martinez at the No. 2 position as well as Maxwell Acri and Andrea Moro at the No. 3 spot.

Martinez and Acri were dual winners once again, also winning in their singles matches from the No. 1 and No. 4 positions.

The Mountaineers dropped to 7-13 overall and 0-5 in the MAAC.

"Another nail biter," said Siena men's tennis coach John Chiaramonte.

"This one came down to the final set on court six. Dylan had a great battle, but fell just short of victory."

Rider is 6-17 overall and 3-3 in the MAAC.
