Siena Baseball capitalized on timely hitting and strong pitching to snap a seven-game losing streak with a complete team effort in a 9-2 midweek victory over Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire.
Offensively, all nine batters registered a hit for Siena (6-26, 3-6), which finished one off a season-high with 13 hits. The Saints also matched a season-high in stolen bases for the third time this spring, swiping five total bags.
On the mound, five Siena hurlers combined to post staff season-bests of both fewest hits (four) and runs allowed.
Danny Barbero homered for the fourth straight game – in which he's hit five total – to reclaim the lead for the Saints for good at 3-2 in the fifth, and kickstart a spurt of seven unanswered runs to close out the contest. Siena pulled away with five insurance runs over the final two innings, highlighted by a three-run homer from reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week
Tyler Figueroa to put the game away in the ninth.
Freshmen
Connor Byrne (two innings),
Nolan Puglisi (three), and
Tyler Kidwell (one) combined to pitch the final six shutout innings for the Saints while allowing just one hit.
Siena returns to the Capital Region to finally host their first weekend series at Connors Park this spring beginning Friday at 3 p.m. vs. Niagara.
