LOUDONVILLE, NY – Four freshmen hurlers highlighted a strong staff effort to pitch Siena Baseball past Binghamton 3-2 in midweek non-conference action at Connors Park.
Â
Nolan Puglisi,
Connor Byrne,
Evan Saulys, and
Tyler Kidwell combined to record all but one out while scattering just six hits and two runs to propel Siena (8-28) to its second straight win. Byrne tossed the middle three shutout innings to earn the win, while Kidwell closed things out for his first collegiate save. Â
Â
Following a pair of RBI groundouts from
Tyler Figueroa and
Randall Hien early in the contest,
Kobe Stenson smashed the go-ahead RBI double in the sixth to score
Danny Barbero with the decisive run. Barbero and
Nick Bergamotto paced the offensive with multi-hit efforts.
Â
Binghamton (16-20) loaded the bases with nobody threatening to tie or reclaim the lead in the seventh, but Saulys bore down to induce a strikeout and an inning ending double play to slam the door shut. Sam Haney hit a two-run homer in the third to account for the scoring for the Bearcats who stranded 13 runners.
Â
The Saints will look to close out their stretch of five home games in a span of just six days with a winning record when they host UMass Wednesday at 3 p.m.
