Siena Women's Tennis had a resounding answer for how it would get back into the MAAC playoff picture with a dominant 6-1 win over Marist on the road at the Tennis Pavilion in Poughkeepsie on Monday afternoon in matches that were rescheduled due to inclement weather from late last week.
The Saints (3-11, 1-3 MAAC) took all three doubles matches to the earn the point with
Alexa Wilson and
Laia Giralt topping the No. 1 team of Caterina Assi and Vihana Shresta 6-2 and the No. 2 team of
Manuela Gomez and
Shelby Madeiros beating the Red Foxes' duo of Chloe Clements-Sorde and Devon De Sanctis 6-3. In the third position,
Emma Boggiali partnered with
Zaara Omar to defeat Andriana Zaphiris and Ellen Zuerick in a sweep 6-0.
Boggiali, who was also celebrating her birthday today, won her singles match from the No. 4 position by getting past Zuerick in straight sets.
"We are back on track," said Siena women's tennis head coach
John Chiaramonte.
"Our women came out on fire and swept the doubles point. Great win for Manu (Manuela) getting the clinch. And, awesome win for Emma on her birthday."
Giralt, Gomez, Omar and
Jade Gautier all won in singles play as well.
The Red Foxes fell to 2-19 overall and 0-3 in the MAAC.
Next up, the Saints will look to continue rolling when it hosts Rider (2-12, 0-3 MAAC) in MAAC action on Friday at noon.
