HAMILTON, NY – Siena Men's Tennis found their winning ways to a tune of a 21-12 record over the course of the two-day Colgate Invitational this past Saturday and Sunday with the Saints getting the best of teams such as Hamilton, Niagara, and host Colgate.
Sophomore
Oscar Martinez had a stellar performance, winning all six matches that he played in, including three on the singles' side and three as a partner in doubles competition. In total, the La Guaira, Venezuela native won nine sets and dropped just one set on the weekend playing either the top or second seed.
Freshman
Emilio Zavala Salinas was not far behind from nearly having an undefeated weekend of play as well. The Merida Yucatan, Mexico native completed the sweep at the singles level, taking all three matches, and then won two of three as a doubles' competitor.
Other Saints played well overall with sophomore
Dylan Breen going 4-1 and senior
Maxwell Acri earning a 4-2 record among singles and doubles play.
"It was a fun weekend of tennis," said first-year Siena head coach
Alex Van Cott.
"Every member of the team contributed to our performance at some point during the weekend. I was very pleased with how we responded to two very long days of tennis and I believe that we took a step in the right direction. I am looking forward to seeing what this team will look like in May."
The Saints return to the courts on the weekend of Friday Oct. 4 through Sunday, Oct. 6 in the MAAC Masters Tournament played in Hamden, CT on the QU Tennis Courts against top competition within the conference.
