A Winning Sunday for Women’s Tennis in the Battle of the Northway

Van Cott: “We are moving in the right direction.”

Siena Women's Tennis dug deep for a winning Sunday to close out play in the Battle of the Northway played at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center on the campus of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.

The Saints went 4-1 in singles competition and then 3-2 in doubles play for a 7-3 finish on Sunday after running a record of 10-3 on Saturday.

Siena finished 17-6 overall between singles and doubles competition over the two-day tournament against local teams RPI, Union and host Skidmore.

"First of all, thank you to our assistant coach Brendan Boutin for doing a great job with the girls this weekend," said first-year Siena Women's Tennis head coach Alex Van Cott.

"We performed well against three solid teams and I believe that we are moving in the right direction.  I am excited about what the future holds for this group.  We will re-group these next couple weeks and be well-prepared for the rest of the fall season."

Sophomores Andrea Vargas and Manuela Gomez as well as juniors Madeline De Faber-Schumacher and Reegan Mullaney all added two wins to their totals on the weekend.

The Saints return to action next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Colgate Invitational beginning each day at 9 a.m.
