Siena Women's Tennis returned to the courts for their first match of the 2025 season and fell 5-2 at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst on Sunday.
Of note,
Andrea Vargas and
Madeline De Faber-Schumacher each turned out wins in singles competition.
Vargas, the sophomore who resides in Lima, Peru, played at the No. 1 spot and outlasted Belle Jonglertrakul 4-6, 6-4, 2-0 before the Minutewoman retired from the match. The win evened Vargas' career record at 4-4 for the 2024-2025 campaign.
De Faber-Schumacher, the junior who hails from Phoenixville, PA, earned her fourth win of the season from the No. 6 slot by beating Owethu Makhanyu 6-4, 6-1.
The Minutewomen (1-1) bounced back after losing at Boston College 6-1 just two days earlier and were carried by the middle part of their lineup, earning wins from the No. 3-5 singles positions and took wins at the doubles No. 2-3 spots.
Next, Siena will host Seton Hall this Friday at 5:45 p.m. from Tri-City Fitness in Latham.
