Saints Prepare for First Trip to Cornell Since 1980

Siena Travels to Ithaca for First Time in 45 Years

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Women's Basketball concludes its three-game roadtrip Wednesday with its first trip to Cornell since Jan. 14, 1980. The Saints and Big Red will meet at 2:30 p.m. at Newman Arena at Bartels Hall in Ithaca, NY.

Wednesday marks the final game of a season-long three-game roadtrip for the Saints. The Green & Gold return to the UHY Center for the first of two consecutive home games on Tuesday, Dec. 2, to host one of the newest Division I institutions in New Haven.

Siena is coming off an encouraging outing against Power Conference opponent Rutgers on Nov. 24. Offensively, the Saints shot a team single-game high of 39.1% from three (9-23), with their nine made three-pointers the most they have had in a game. Valencia Fontenelle-Posson tied a team single-game best with three made threes in the game, while her team-high 15 points at Rutgers were four shy of her single-game high.

On the defensive end, the Green & Gold recorded a single-game high of 26 rebounds, eight of which came from Garrisen Freeman, who registered a career and team single-game high of 10 in the game. Additionally, Kaiya Rain Tucker accounted for three of Siena's six blocks against a tall and physical Rutgers team. Tucker's three rejections were both a career high and single-game high for the team this year.

Cornell is off to a 3-3 start to the season, including a 52-51 overtime win at Le Moyne on Nov. 22. The team will be playing just its second home game this year, posting a 60-54 loss to Colgate in its only other one on Nov. 18. Second-year head coach Emily Garner's squad has posted a -2.8 differential thus far, averaging 52.2 points per night while allowing 55.0. Four players account for over 81% of the team's scoring, with Rachel Kaus leading the way, dropping 12.3 per outing. Right behind her is Emily Pape, who nets 11.2 points per game along with a team-high 6.7 rebounds.

Despite campuses being separated by roughly 160 miles, Siena and Cornell will meet for just the fifth time ever on Wednesday, with the Saints holding a 3-1 lead in the series. The Empire State foes met each season from 1978 to 1980, with Siena winning each of those three—including the only other meeting in Ithaca on Jan. 14, 1980, by a score of 71-44. Siena and Cornell renewed the series last season in Loudonville on Dec. 30, 2024, in which the Big Red snuck away with a 76-73 win.

Nick DeLuca will have the call on ESPN+, while Joe Puccio and Steve Amedio have the local broadcast on WVCR 88.3 FM. Tickets, live stats, and courtside X updates can be found by clicking on the corresponding links.
