Siena Returns Home to Take on a Fresh Face in Division I

Saints Set for First Game at UHY Center in Over Two Weeks

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Women's Basketball returns to UHY Center at 6 p.m. Wednesday following three consecutive games away from home. In doing so, the Saints welcome in the New Haven Chargers, which is competing in its inaugural Division I season.

Wednesday's game tips off Siena's Catholic Charities Christmas Series. Fans who donate to the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany during Siena's game against New Haven will receive a souvenir Siena pennant while supplies last. Established in 1917 as a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Albany, Catholic Charities helps an estimated 77,000 people each year across the 14 local counties that it serves. The 501(c)(3) agency offers a wide spectrum of services, from addressing basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter; to more specialized support for the most vulnerable in our communities, including individuals with developmental disabilities, pregnant and parenting teens, the unemployed, victims of domestic violence and the homeless.

Come Wednesday night, Siena will play its first game at the UHY Center since hosting Dartmouth on Nov. 16. The team's three consecutive games away from home are its longest stretch of the season, and it will have no more than two consecutive road games over the course of the rest of the season.

The Saints will look to bounce back following a 49-47 loss at Cornell on Nov. 26, which marked their closest contest of the season. Genevive Wedemeyer went for double figures for the third time this season in the game at Cornell and combined for 19 points over two games last week—tying Francesca Schiro for the most on the team over the two outings.

Additionally, rookie Kaiya Rain Tucker produced two blocks against Cornell, marking the second consecutive game in which she had multiple rejections. Following five blocks over two games last week, Tucker is now top-five in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, averaging 1.0 per outing.

Siena also limited Cornell to 34.6% shooting in the game, marking the fifth time in seven games in which the Saints have kept an opponent to 35.2% or lower from the field. Looking towards Wednesday night's matchup, the Chargers have shot under 35.2% from the field just once this season, which came in their season opener at Xavier (33.3%).

In its first season as a Division I program, the Chargers are 2-4 to start the year—both wins coming against Division III opponents—and their four losses coming by an average of 16.75 points to Xavier, Iona, Boston University, and Fairfield. Despite this, New Haven has a +10 scoring margin thanks to nearly 66 points per game. Lindsay Hogan is the lone player averaging double-digit points per game (14.8), while also ranking as one of the team's leading rebounders with 7.2 per outing. All of the team's single-game highs in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks came in one of its two Division III matchups. On the other hand, the Chargers have averaged 22 turnovers and 18 fouls in all four games against Division I teams.

With Wednesday marking the first-ever meeting between Siena and New Haven, it is also the first instance in which Siena will play a team in its inaugural Division I season.

Emmanuel Berbari and Brian Rubino will have the call on ESPN+, with Steve Jones on hand for in-game sideline reporting. Fans can also listen over the airwaves with Joe Puccio and Steve Amedio calling the game on WVCR 88.3 FM. Following New Haven, Siena will have 12 days off before hosting Central Connecticut State at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15.
