UCF Arms Silence Saints in Game Two

Three Knights Combine on Three-Hit Shutout

Three hurlers combined on a three-hit, 13 strikeout shutout as UCF clinched the season-opening series with an 11-0 decision over Siena Baseball in Orlando.

Wiley Hartley, Preseason All-Big 12 selection Dominic Castellano, and Carter Stanford combined to retire the final 18 batters in order after Siena (0-2) had strung together back-to-back singles to open the fourth. Hartley went the first five to earn the win for UCF (2-0).

The Saints other best opportunity to get on the scoreboard came in the opening frame when they walked the bases loaded with two outs. But Hartley bore down for his first of five strikeouts to escape the inning.

Offensively, UCF spread out its offense. The Knights plated a pair in the second, added an insurance run in the third, and doubled their advantage with three more to pull away in the fourth. Chase Krewson led the attack with three hits and four RBI, highlighted by a bases-clearing double as part of a four-run eighth.

Owen Pincince and Vincent Venditti each reached base twice for the Saints on a single and a walk apiece.

Siena will look to salvage the series Sunday. First pitch has been moved up an hour to noon due to expected inclement weather in Central Florida later in the afternoon.
