A year after stunning a nationally-ranked IWLCA opponent in Army West Point, the rematch would have a drastically different outcome for the Siena Women's Lacrosse team in this year's match up.
The 23
rd ranked Black Knights got off to a raucous start, reeling off the game's first seven goals and held Siena scoreless nearly midway through the first half as Army West Point rolled past Siena 17-3 at Michie Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Brigid Duffy rifled off seven goals and gathered seven draw controls to go along with three ground balls and caused three turnovers for the Black Knights (3-0), who have also defeated Rutgers and Marist in the young season.
Allison Reilly also had a big day for the Black Knights, who tallied two goals and five assists.
Chloe Garrett, Ryan Remaly and Geneva Milch Cesoni all scored twice as well.
Siena got on the board with 5:37 left in the first half on a goal by
Cassidy Bonura and would not strike again until there was 2:14 remaining in the third quarter when
Jenna Pollicino put in her third goal of the year.
Olivia Nicolson scored early in the fourth quarter, but the Saints found few openings on the day as they were outshot 34-14 including 26-11 in shots on goal.
Army also had a commanding advantage in the circle, winning a dominant 19 of 23 draw controls to hold possession.
In last season's match up, Siena held a 13-12 edge in that category when it came away with its first victory against a top 20 ranked IWLCA opponent in that 12-11 win last February.
Siena will be back in action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. when the Saints visit Dartmouth (2-0).
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
