Men’s Lacrosse to host Boston University in Season Opener

Saints to play Terriers on Saturday at 1 p.m.

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Men's Lacrosse begins the 2025 season anew with an experienced roster of 38 returners, MAAC Championship expectations, and a top opponent visiting Loudonville that received national attention with votes in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.

It sets the stage for the lacrosse showdown right from jump on Saturday at 1 p.m. as Siena will officially open its 62nd varsity season with a first-time meeting against RV Boston University at Hickey Field.

"I'm excited!" said coach Gleason, who begins his seventh season at the helm.

"We had two good tests with Bryant and Le Moyne (in the preseason) and I thought we performed well in both. We saw some areas where we need to improve upon and I think that we'd had a good week of practice even with the elements we're facing right now. This is a very strong opponent in Boston coming to Hickey Field. They're going to give us a lot to see where we're at."

The Terriers finished with 10 wins in 2024 and earned a pair of Patriot League playoff victories with a triple-overtime triumph over Colgate followed by an overtime thrilling win against then No. 11 Army West Point to reach the Patriot League Championship against Lehigh.

Boston took Lehigh the distance before dropping a heart breaker 11-10 for the title.

Siena was projected to finish first once again in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll last week.

For the 26 upperclassmen on the Saints, they've felt the intensity of MAAC playoff games and came so very close to lifting the trophy at the end of the year. The Saints defeated defending MAAC Champions Marist in last season's playoffs before dropping a two-goal defeat against eventual champion Sacred Heart.

"It's great to have that recognition of being picked number one," said graduate student midfielder and tri-captain Jack Cavaioli.

"That means that we've been doing something right these past few years, but at the same time— we understand that being picked preseason No. 1 doesn't get you a goal on offense, it doesn't get you a stop on defense, and doesn't clear the ball for you. It doesn't give you anything so everything on that field is going to be earned regardless of where we're picked in the preseason."

Reaching the MAAC Semis in 2022, the title game in 2023 and the MAAC Semifinals in 2024, it remains the elusive goal for this group.

Some of the top players for the Saints returning that will be looking to change that are senior and top goal scorer Pratt Reynolds, top facilitator and senior Ryan McCarthy, senior defense Andrew Rooney, and graduate student goalkeeper Andrew Arcuri

"A bunch of family members from our hometowns and our friends are planning on coming out," Arcuri said.

"Our parents are fired up so I think we are going to see a pretty good turnout. A lot of people are excited to see us and see what we're capable of."

Two players were also selected to the All-MAAC Preseason Team with seniors Reynolds and Olmstead.

Reynolds, led the Saints in goals with 45 in 2024, and currently has 136 total points to rank 16th all-time in the category.

Olmstead tallied 41 goals and 12 assists for a team-high 53 points last season.

Boston is led by senior attack Brenden Kelly (career-high 43 goals, six assists in 2024) and senior goalkeeper and Second Team All-Patriot League selection Will Barnes (11.50 GAA, 226 saves, .538 save percentage in 2024) as well as senior face off specialist Mathew Fritz (.534 winning percentage on draws, 155-of-290).

The game can be watched via stream on Siena All-Access with broadcaster Stephen Jones on the call and live stats can be followed here.
