Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Dobrzynski nets winner; Women’s Lacrosse Fends off Le Moyne

Dobrzynski totals three goals, one assist including winning goal at 4:53 in fourth quarter

Cutting her way through traffic, senior Grace Dobrzynski turned on the jets, threw a shot fake and then slung in what proved to be the winning goal as visiting Siena fended off Le Moyne 9-8 on Ted Grant Field in Syracuse on Wednesday afternoon.

Siena (2-5) took a 4-2 advantage into halftime and had to fend off several counter attacks from the Dolphins (1-6), who tied it back up on three occasions in the second half and came within a goal with 1:20 remaining on a goal by Alexa Strelick.

But each time, the Saints had a response. When the game became tied at 4, it was Meghan Decker who found the back of the net.  And, when it was 5-5, Jenna Pollicino made her mark on a feed from Koehler Nieman.  On the final tie at 6-6, Cassidy Bonura flashed her speed, racing by her defenders and scored to put Siena back on top 7-6 with 10:33 left in the fourth quarter.

While the challenges from Le Moyne continue to arise, Siena was picked up on additional goals by Kelly Logue and Dobrzynski to give them a two-goal cushion.

Dobrzynski led with three goals, and one assist while six other Saints scored including Nieman, Bonura, Logue, Decker, Pollicino, and Lauren O'Hagan

Bonura, who made the MAAC All-Rookie Team a year ago, tied her season-high with seven draw controls and added a ground ball and caused a turnover.

On defense, Mikayla Cooke provided an all-around effort for Siena with five draw controls, three ground balls and was credited with a caused turnover as well.

Siena was consistently quicker to the ball, gaining 16 of 20 draw controls and held a 30-19 shots advantage including 16-12 for shots on goal.

Julia Blakeslee led the Dolphins with a pair of goals while six other players on Le Moyne each added a goal apiece.

Siena has now defeated Le Moyne in back-to-back meetings each of the previous two seasons.

Siena will be back in action this Tuesday when the Saints travel to Central New York in Hamilton to take on Colgate (3-4) at 1 p.m. on Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium.
