Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Saints Stunned at Sacred Heart in Overtime

Siena squanders 6-1 halftime lead on road against defending MAAC Champions

A broken play with a bounce in front of the net was scooped up by Sacred Heart's John Murray and deposited into the net for the winning goal as the defending MAAC Champions Sacred Heart escaped with an 11-10 overtime win over Siena Men's Lacrosse on Saturday on Campus Field in Fairfield, CT.

Siena (2-4, 0-1 MAAC) had just about everything working in a dominant first half that saw the Saints winning face offs, stuffing shots, marking their men as it also was boosted by three of Pratt Reynolds' four goals on the day as Siena enjoyed a 6-1 halftime advantage.

Sophomore Patrick Radomski also scored twice and Caden Olmstead found the back of the net.

But, despite the staggering start, the Pioneers (5-2, 1-0 MAAC) engineered the comeback with a much different looking third quarter with newfound energy.

SHU outscored Siena 5-1 in the third quarter, backed by three goals from Will Moulton, to knot the score at 6-6 before Ryan McCarthy put Siena back on top at 7-6 with 1:05 remaining when SHU attempted to move up the field with their goalkeeper and left the net unattended.

After Ryan Rooney locked it back up at 7-7, Reynolds put in his fourth goal of the day to put Siena back up 8-7 on a man-up situation with 12:33 to go. Jake Ward and Rooney both scored to give SHU its first lead of the game at 9-8 with 8:05 left.

The Saints answered back with goals from Conor Hufnagle and Olmstead to take a 10-9 advantage with 4:11 left.

But, once again the Pioneers responded with a goal from Tucker Spencer to set up the dramatic finish in overtime.

Siena returns to action next Saturday, March 22 when it hosts Iona (1-7, 0-1 MAAC) at 3 p.m. from Hickey Field.
