LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Men's Lacrosse team put on a clinic on how to win at the face off "X" and dominated first-year program Iona 18-12 on Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field to secure their first conference win of the 2025 season.
Freshman
Logan Banek was as dominant as ever—winning an eye-pooping 17-of-18 face offs— and helping Siena win the most team face offs (27) since April 24, 1980 when the Saints won 28 face offs against Marist.
Entering play, Banek was fifth in the nation in face off winning percentage at .648.
The New Hartford, NY native only improved those percentages and he won at an astounding .944 clip.
Siena (3-4, 1-1 MAAC) finished winning 27 of 34 as a team with others such as
Sean Miller (4 of 5),
Tyler Kuprianchik (3 of 5) and
Nick Papagalis (3 of 6) all contributing to the unit.
Offensively, it was all clicking for the Saints who scored a season-high 18 goals and recorded their most goals in a game in nearly six years when it scored 20 on April 13, 2019 versus NJIT.
Senior
Pratt Reynolds notched a team-high five goals with nine shots on goal while
Patrick Radomski also secured the hat trick with three goals of his own and
Caden Olmstead tallied two more goals.
Siena led 4-1 at the end of the first quarter on goals by Olmstead,
Colby LeBlanc, another from Olmstead, and
Jack Cavaioli. The Saints lit up the scoreboard in the second quarter, burying eight more goals to carry a comfortable 12-4 halftime advantage. A key five-minute stretch occurred with the Saints up 4-2, answered by five consecutive goals from Radomski, three from Reynolds and another from Conor Hufnagle.
The Saints increased that lead to 16-5 after a goal by
Patrick Linton at the 14:10 mark of the fourth quarter.
Iona did not quit, scoring seven of the next eight goals to get within five goals of the lead.
But that's as close as they would come as
Joe Valenza put through a goal with 1:12 remaining for the finishing touches.
Defensively, Siena was led by senior
Andrew Rooney, who had team highs of seven ground balls and caused five turnovers.
Andrew Arcuri was sharp in net, saving seven and allowing just seven goals in 53 plus minutes of action to pick up the victory.
Siena returns to action next Saturday, March 29 when it hosts Mount St. Mary's (MAAC) at 12 p.m. from Hickey Field.
