Logan Haskell bookended a decisive eight-run sixth inning with home runs as Binghamton defeated Siena Baseball 11-6 in midweek action downstate.
Binghamton (9-9) added three more insurance runs in the seventh to top Siena (3-14) for the second time this spring in non-conference play.
Timely hitting and strong pitching staked the Saints to a 2-0 lead heading to the home half of the sixth.
Gavin Thorburn scored on a passed ball in the first, while
Sean Camacho delivered a two-out RBI single in the fourth. Meanwhile, the first four Siena hurlers as part of a staff day held the Bearcats hitless through the first four, and combined to twirl a one-hit shutout through five.
But the Binghamton bats woke up in a big way in the sixth, with Haskell setting the tone with a leadoff home run. Nine batters later, Haskell added the crowning blow with a three-run shot to cap the eight-run frame.
The Saints, who out-hit the Bearcats 9-7, rallied with four in the ninth highlighted by the first Siena home runs for
Richie Paltridge and
Owen Pincince, the latter of whom finished the scoring with a three-run shot.
The Saints return to action this weekend when they travel to four-time defending MAAC Regular Season Champion and preseason favorite Fairfield. The three-game series starts Friday at 3 p.m.
