Siena Men's Tennis received wins in singles play from
Oscar Martinez,
Maxwell Acri and
Emilio Zavala Salinas, but still wound up short in a 4-3 nail biter at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon from Emmitsburg, MD.
Siena (3-9 overall, 2-1 MAAC) dropped all three doubles matches and split the singles matches on the day.
Playing from the No. 1 singles spot, Martinez picked up his 19
th victory of the season by getting past Akarsh Gaonkar 6-1, 6-4.
Despite dropping the opening set, Acri rallied back for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 tie-breaker over Filippos Zachiotis at the No. 3 position.
And, the final win for the Saints came from No. 6 player Zavala Salinas, who defeated Ryan Wagner 6-4, 6-3.
The Mountaineers improved to 9-3 overall and 2-0 inside conference play.
Next, Siena will travel to Philadelphia, PA to play at Temple (8-6) this Friday at 2 p.m.
