For the third consecutive time, Siena Women's Tennis won by the slimmest of margins—4-3—this time on the longest conference road trip of the season at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints (4-6, 2-0 MAAC) showed its mettle again—
Laia Giralt and
Madeline De Faber-Schumacher each were double winners in singles and doubles play while
Zaara Omar also picked up a victory from the singles No. 3 position to win in Emmitsburg, MD.
"It was a good team performance in tough conditions," said Siena tennis coach
Alex Van Cott.
"I am really pleased with how the girls have come together over the last few weeks and made some new investments in the season. Good job to Zaara [Omar] for getting the clinch and staying composed when it mattered."
Giralt and
Manuela Gomez teamed together at the doubles No. 1 spot and held on to top the tandem of Venus Jang and Bella Pescatore 7-5.
De Faber-Schumacher worked with
Reegan Mullaney to beat Kaajal Ramisetty and Valentine Mudry 6-4 to earn the doubles points for the Saints.
In singles play, Giralt cruised over Margherita Trolese 6-2, 6-2 at the number one spot while Omar upended Ramisetty 6-3, 6-4 from the No. 3 position.
De Faber-Schumacher earned another win from the No. 6 slot, getting past Valentine Mudry 6-0, 6-2.
The Mountaineers fell to 1-13 overall and 0-2 in MAAC play on the season.
Next, Siena will step outside of conference play this Friday with a match at Temple (4-11) starting at 2 p.m.
