Siena Baseball scored runs in four separate innings, but reigning Northeast Conference Champion LIU posted three frames of four runs or more to defeat the Saints 14-5 in midweek action on Long Island.
Every member of the starting lineup both registered at least one hit and scored once, while eight of nine knocked in runs as part of a balanced offensive attack for LIU (11-13, 6-3), which has won five straight and improved to 3-0 against MAAC squads so far this spring.
Siena (4-17, 2-4) matched the Sharks with 13 hits and scored in more innings, but unlike LIU, whose run-scoring frames consisted of five, five, and four runs, the Saints only managed one multi-run inning with a pair of scores in the eighth.
Siena too had a balanced offense as 10 of the 11 hitters who saw action registered hits.
Joe D'Elia led the way with three hits for the Saints.
LIU broke things open early with back-to-back five run frames to take a commanding 10-0 lead through four. Siena chipped away with five unanswered over the ensuing four innings before the Sharks put things away with a four-run eighth.
Nolan Puglisi tossed four shutout innings out of the bullpen for the Saints.
Siena continues its busy five-game week with another midweek matchup at another NEC foe tomorrow. The Saints take on Fairleigh Dickinson at 3 p.m. in Hackensack, New Jersey.
