While the last 48 hours have been a bit of a whirlwind for Siena Men's Lacrosse due to extreme temperatures and unsettling field conditions, the Saints resembled the vortex down the stretch of Wednesday evening's 10-6 victory in Vestal against Binghamton.
Siena (2-3) played its second game in a 48-hour window, having taken a slim defeat at Dartmouth on a rescheduled Monday late afternoon.
But the energy was free flowing with the Saints, who got a go-ahead goal from long stick midfielder
Joe Valenza who took a long pass from defender
Mark Cummins and sprinted down the field, faked a shot and pumped in a goal for a 6-5 Saints' lead with 1:06 remaining in the third quarter.
The goal ignited a run of four consecutive goals and five of the game's last six goals in the final 16 plus minutes of play.
Patrick Radomski scored on back-to-back opportunities at 14:24 and then again with 7:52 left in the period while
Patrick Linton converted on a man-up advantage and
Travis Fry concluded the scoring with an insurance goal at the 1:23 mark of the fourth quarter.
A game after committing 21 turnovers, Siena cut that number down to a season-low 15 and received another huge lift from freshman face off specialist
Logan Banek. Banek, the native of New Hartford, NY, won 14-of-20 face offs and secured a team-high eight ground balls.
Radomski and
Pratt Reynolds led the offense, with each completing hat tricks and nine different Saints accrued at least one point on the evening.
Hustle stats went to Siena as well as the Saints held a 26-17 edge in ground balls overall and a 43-39 shots advantage including 25-17 for shots on goal.
Saints goalkeeper
Andrew Arcuri made 11 saves on a .647 save percentage and allowed his fewest total goals this season with just six.
The Bearcats (0-4) were led by Dan Garone, who scored twice.
Siena returns to action next Saturday, March 15 when it opens up MAAC play at RV Sacred Heart (4-1) at noon.
