LOUDONVILLE, NY - Having already secured the three-seed in the upcoming Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, Siena Women's Basketball (17-11, 14-4 MAAC) gears up for its final tune-up entering postseason play by hosting the Manhattan Jaspers (14-14, 8-11 MAAC) in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon. Tip-off from the UHY Center is set for 2 p.m.
Kelly O'Donnell and Brian Rubino have the call on ESPN+, while Joe Puccio and Steve Amedio will have the local broadcast on WVCR 88.3 FM. Tickets, international stream, live stats, and courtside X updates can be found by clicking on the corresponding links.
Shortly before tip-off at 1:40 p.m., seniors
Anajah Brown and
Valencia Fontenelle-Posson, graduate student
Ahniysha Jackson, and manager
Elijah Patterson will be honored during a special Senior Day ceremony.
As a special thank you to the support for Siena Nation all season, the Saints will hold another postgame autograph session with the players at the calculation of Saturday's contest. With that, the concession stand will offer $2 hot dogs as another special treat to the program's loyal supporters.
Siena's freshman duo of
Aniya Hooker and
Myriam Traore displayed solid performances against the top-ranked team in the conference in Fairfield Thursday night. Traore put together her first career double-double on 12 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 3PT) and a career-high 11 rebounds. It was her first time with double figures in rebounds, and the fourth time over her last five coming down with six or more. For Hooker, she clocked 40 minutes for the third time this season - the first since Dec. 15 against Binghamton - while attempting a career-high 11 looks from the field, and tying a career-high four from three.
In what will be her final home game wearing the Green and Gold, Jackson has a chance to leave the UHY Center with a storybook ending. The local product out of Watervliet, NY, is just one three-point bucket away from becoming the all-time program leader for threes made in a career. Jackson tied
Peg Taylor's record Thursday night, and can surprise the mark that has stood since 1992 in front of the hometown faithful.
Having secured a postseason berth, Manhattan is one of five teams in the MAAC jockeying for the sixth and final first round bye in the MAAC Championships. Perhaps one of the most balanced offenses in the league that averaged the fifth most points per-game (62.4), the Jaspers boast six players averaging at least 8.4 PPG. With that, the team owns the third-high field goal percentage in the MAAC at 42.2%, while the defense holds opponents to the league's lowest at 37.2%. Manhattan has controlled the boards throughout the season, leading the league with 37.2 RPG on a conference-high 26.5 coming on the defensive end.
Entering the 78th all-time meeting between Siena and Manhattan, the Saints have the upper hand by nearly two-times as many games as the Jaspers, 50-27. The sides have split the last six meetings, however, Siena's senior class of Brown, Fontenelle-Posson, and Jackson are a perfect 3-0 against Manhattan at home over their careers. The Saints have defeated the Jaspers by an average of 13 points over the last three meetings at the UHY Center, including a 23-point victory the last time the teams met in Loudonville on Feb. 1, 2024.
Siena topped Manhattan earlier this season, 62-60, and Jan. 2. Trailing by three entering the third, the Saints out-scored the Jaspers 17-12 over the final 10 minutes to pull off the road win.
Teresa Seppala supplied 24 points, while
Zyriah Price led the team with a career-high 11 rebounds.
Having secured the three-seed in the MAAC Championships, the Saints will take on the sixth-seed in the MAAC Quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 13, from Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.
