ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – Siena Baseball stranded 15 runners as Manhattan took the rubber game of the series 6-2 at Honey Field on the campus of Bard College.
Manhattan (6-8, 2-1) scored three two-out runs in the third and tacked on a trio of insurance tallies in the final two innings to claim the MAAC opening series.
Siena (2-11, 1-2) broke through with a two-run single from
Edwin Sanchez in the ninth, but ended up stranding two more as the rally faltered.
The Saints spoiled a strong effort from starting pitcher
Noah Rodriguez, who went seven solid scattering six hits and three runs while walking only one and striking out six.
Jake Sparks capped a big week at the plate for Siena, accounting for three of the six hits.
The Saints have the league bye next weekend and will head south to take on Delaware for a three-game non-conference series beginning Friday at 5 p.m. in Newark.
