Siena Women's Lacrosse handed Iona its' first conference loss of the season and extended their own win streak to four in a row as the Saints put up six goals in the second quarter to go on for a key 13-10 road win in New Rochelle at Mazzella Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints (6-8 overall, 4-2 MAAC) came at the Gaels in waves with six different players recording at least two goals including three by senior
Kelly Logue, who became just the ninth player in program history to reach 100 career goals with her last score coming in the fourth quarter to effectively seal it.
Logue joins Mary Soures, Nicole McNeely, Lindsey Rosecrans, Sarah Croutier, Caitlin Mikel, Annie Brennan, Deirdre McQuillan and Christina Pampalone as the only players in the Green and Gold to accomplish the feat.
Other two-goal scorers on Saturday were
Grace Dobrzynski,
Koehler Nieman,
Olivia Nicholson,
Cassidy Bonura, and
Lauren O'Hagan.
Freshman
McAllister Salter stayed unbeaten in goal as the freshman upped her record to 4-0 as She made a season-high 12 saves and has held all four opponents to just 7.25 goals per game since she was inserted into the lineup.
Siena led 9-6 at halftime fueled by six consecutive goals scored in roughly a five-minute span of the second quarter.
The Saints added three more goals in the early part of the third quarter with one from Nicholson and two more Bonura to make it 12-6 with 11:00 minutes left in the stanza.
Bonura led the team once again in draw controls with nine as well. Siena led the category 18-9 including winning all six in the third quarter alone.
Iona scored four straight goals from Kira Varada, Kacie Scarduzio, and a pair from Calen Norton to cut the deficit to 12-10 with 7:12 left in the game.
However, Logue's goal with under four minutes to go provided a three-goal cushion and concluded the scoring by both teams on the day.
Siena is now in a three-way tie for fourth place in the MAAC standings along with Sacred Heart and Niagara.
The top eight teams qualify for the postseason this year in the conference.
Siena will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to North Andover, MA to take on Merrimack (1-12, 0-6 MAAC) at 3:30 p.m.
