Purple Eagles Power Past Saints in Series Finale

Niagara Notches Six Home Runs

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Elijah Hammill and Jason Green each homered twice to highlight a six home run afternoon for defending MAAC Tournament Champion Niagara which powered past Siena Baseball 14-4 in a run-rule shortened eight-inning affair in the series finale at Connors Park.

Hamill and Green each drove in four runs apiece for Niagara (9-20, 5-10) which salvaged the series. All nine Purple Eagles batters registered hits – including six who posted multi-hit efforts – as part of a 16-hit barrage.

Gavin Thorburn and Jake Sparks each homered for Siena (11-21, 7-8) which fell short in its bid to secure its first series sweep of the season.

Niagara broke a 1-1 tie through two with a decisive four-run third to start a stretch of nine unanswered runs. The Purple Eagles added five doubles for the afternoon to finish with 11 total extra base hits.

The Saints mounted a mini rally with a three-run seventh to draw within 10-4, but Niagara finished it off early by responding with a four-run eighth to ultimately invoke the mercy rule.

Siena begins a new week of action when they host Dartmouth Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Connors Park.
