LOUDONVILLE, NY – Dartmouth capitalized on a pair of costly errors in the ninth to score three runs and rally past Siena Baseball 9-8 at Connors Park.
Siena (11-22) harbored an 8-6 advantage in the ninth, but a potential game-ending double play was booted, opening the door for Dartmouth (7-18). An RBI single by the following batter became the tying play, as the relay from the outfield was thrown away allowing a second run to score. A.J. DeMastrie then reached on a nubber down the first base line which plated the decisive run.
A see-saw affair saw the Saints score three to take a 4-1 lead in the third. With the bases empty and two out, four straight Siena batters reached, highlighted by a go-ahead two-run single from
Nick Bergamotto and an RBI hit by
Joe D'Elia.
After Dartmouth drew back even in the fifth,
Jake Sparks started a three-run spurt with the go-ahead double in the home half of the frame. Sparks finished a perfect 3-3 while reaching base safely in all five plate appearances.
The Saints ultimately pushed their lead to 8-6 in the eighth, with their final run coming home courtesy of a wild pitch. Siena scored four of its eight runs on wild pitches.
The Saints continue a stretch of four games in four days when they open a three-game series at MAAC foe Saint Peter's starting tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Jersey City, New Jersey.
