LATHAM, NY – Siena Women's Tennis pushed four singles matches to the brink, but dropped three of those tight matches as the Saints lost 6-1 to Niagara on Sunday from Shaker High School on Senior Day.
The Saints (5-10 overall and 3-3 in conference play) had one student-athlete to honor, but it was one of the all-time wins' leader in Barcelona, Spain native
Laia Giralt.
Giralt continues to vault up the all-time singles and doubles victory leader board with 52 singles wins and 49 individual doubles wins in her time in the Green and Gold.
Giralt was honored in a between the women and men's match Senior Day tribute with friends and family in attendance with handmade signs, flowers, food and pictures in support.
Junior
Madeline De Faber-Schumacher picked up the lone win on the day, rallying back for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory against senior Mercedes Velasco.
The Purple Eagles improved to 10-11 overall and 4-2 in the MAAC.
Next, Siena will travel to Lawrenceville, New Jersey to play at Rider (8-11 overall, 4-2 MAAC) on Tuesday.
The top six teams qualify for the MAAC Tournament at Mercer County park in West Windsor Park, NJ from Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27. The Saints currently are tied in fifth place with Marist.
