Siena Opens MAAC Championships Thursday Morning

Saints Eye 14th League Title

LOUDONVILLE, NY - First-year head coach Noel Gebauer leads Siena Women's Golf into the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this week as the Saints gear up for the three-day, 54-hole tournament at Disney's Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL, from April 17-19.

Siena enters championships having tournament success this season as the program captured its first tournament title in 10 seasons after winning the Crusader Invitational in October. As if that wasn't enough, the Green and Gold doubled down and won its first Spring outing of the season at the Sacred Heart Spring Break Invitational in March to accomplish back-to-back tournament wins.

Upperclassmen Jillian Barend and Mackenzie Whitney lead a Saints team hungry to capture the 14th MAAC title in program history. Barend, a one-time MAAC Golfer of the Week this season, won the Sacred Heart Spring Break Invitational shooting a season-low +10 over the two rounds. She also had an additional top-three finish, taking second at the Crusader Invitational in October, and holds a 78.8 scoring average through 18 total rounds. Whitney has an individual title this season as well, capturing the Crusader Invitational in October, shooting a season-low +8 over the two rounds. She enters championships with a 79.7 scoring average through 18 rounds.

Emely Kintzel shared the SHU Spring Break Invitational title with Barend, and holds a 80.6 scoring average through 18 rounds this season. Freshman Julia Kret has come on the scene strong this season, boasting two top-10 finishes which came at the Crusader Invitational (9th out of 65 shooting season-low +15), and SHU Spring Break Invite (9th of 33 shooting +19). She holds a 79.1 scoring average through 13 total rounds.

Named for its magnolia trees, the course features elevated tees, spacious greens and challenging water hazards. Wide fairways invite players to hit the ball and hit it long, while 11 of the 18 holes boast water hazards and dozens of sand bunkers dot the landscape. This course was extensively reimagined in 2023. With its newly-elevated design and innovative layout, new teeing grounds, redesigned greenside and fairway bunkers, as well as newly re-contoured Bermuda grass greens that offer fast and true putting surfaces.
