Giralt Earns Two All-MAAC awards; Gomez Takes First All-MAAC honor

Saints’ duo honored on Thursday by the MAAC

Senior Laia Giralt headlined the Siena Women's Tennis Team for earning a pair of All-MAAC honors on Thursday, it was announced by the conference office.

Giralt was named to the All-MAAC First Team for singles and teamed with playing partner Manuela Gomez to earn a spot on the All-MAAC Second Team doubles.

Giralt, a native of Barcelona, Spain surpassed the 50-win plateau in both singles and individual doubles wins this season to rank among the all-time best in Saints' program history.

Thus far in the 2024-2025 campaign, Giralt has amassed a 14-11 singles record while the duo of Giralt and Gomez has gone 13-11 together.

In October earlier this year, Giralt and Gomez won the MAAC Masters Tournament Doubles pairing to advance to the ITA Conference Masters Tournament in Rome, Ga.

This is the third All-MAAC singles nod and fourth All-MAAC doubles selection for Giralt.

Gomez, a native of Bogota, Colombia, earned her first All-MAAC selection.

Siena Women's Tennis is back in action this weekend when it takes on #4 Rider on Friday at 2 p.m. in a MAAC Tournament First Round match up from Mercer County Park in West Windsor, NJ.

Additionally, a total of 50 student-athletes were named to the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Tennis All-Academic Team, announced by the league office today.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
Quinnipiac University and Sacred Heart University boasted a MAAC-leading eight honorees each on the All-Academic Team, while Fairfield University followed with six selections. Closing out the lineup was the quintet of Marist University, Merrimack College, Mount St. Mary's University, Rider University, and Siena College, placing five members on the team apiece, while Niagara University added three players.
