Siena Women's Tennis saw its season come to a close after a successful playoff run that included a first postseason victory by coach
Alex Van Cott as the fifth-seeded Saints fell 4-0 to conference undefeated top seed Quinnipiac on Saturday in a MAAC Women's Tennis Semifinal Round at Mercer County Tennis Park in West Windsor, NJ.
The Saints (8-11) fell behind after dropping the doubles point.
Madeline De Faber-Schumacher and
Reegan Mullaney were defeated 6-2 by Jenna Sloan and Jordan Bradley to begin and then
Laia Giralt and
Manuela Gomez got beat 6-2 by Willow Renton and Caitlin Flower at the No. 1 spot.
In singles play, Flower got past
Andrea Vargas first 6-2, 6-2 to take a 2-0 advantage.
Anagha Shankar was able to get past
Zaara Omar 6-1, 6-3 and then Gomez dropped her match at the No. 4 position to Vera Sekerina 6-3, 7-6 to seal it for the No. 1 seeded Bobcats (11-8).
Though left unfinished, Mullaney led her opponent Caroline Schulson 6-4, 4-4 at the No. 5 spot and De Faber-Schumacher took the opening set and led Ella Lewis 6-4, 2-3. Giralt had split the opening two sets with No. 1 player Renton, taking the first set 6-2, but lost the second set 6-4 before trailing 2-1 in the third set and was left unfinished.
