Siena Baseball mounted a huge rally late with seven unanswered runs over the seventh and eighth innings to secure a series-opening doubleheader split at Quinnipiac with a 9-6 triumph in Game Two. The Bobcats slugged their way to a 13-7 win in the opener.
Game One: Quinnipiac 13, Siena 7
Cole Constable finished a single shy of a cycle and drove in seven runs out of the seven-hole as Quinnipiac (25-21-1, 16-10) handed Siena (19-28, 15-11) its first MAAC series-opening loss in nine tries this season.
The Bobcats pounced for six runs in the first inning and, after the Saints had chipped away to rally within 8-5 in the top of the sixth, Constable capped a five-run home half with a grand slam to seal it.
Siena lost despite out-hitting Quinnipiac 16-10, including a three-hit performance from
Jeremy Sangalang atop the order. Four additional Saints registered multi-hit efforts in the opener.
Game Two: Siena 9, Quinnipiac 6
Siena rallied from a 6-2 seventh inning deficit with seven unanswered runs over the seventh and eighth to secure a pivotal split.
After the Saints inched closer with a three-run seventh capped by a two-out, two-run single from
Owen Pincince, they kicked the door in to go ahead in the eighth. Sangalang punctuated his second straight three-hit effort with the go-ahead single, and
Jake Sparks provided insurance with a two-run double.
With still more than a week to go in the regular season, Siena has now won 19 games, marking the program's highest overall win total since 2018 (21). Moreover, the 15
th MAAC victory is the most since 2016 (16).
By securing the split Siena, which was projected to finish 11
th out of 13 teams according to the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, finishes the day where they started it – just a game back of the third-place Bobcats heading into a decisive series finale.
Due to Friday's forecast coupled with Quinnipiac's weekend-long graduation, the teams will have to wait until Monday to play the decisive rubber game of the series.
